Homophobic graffiti was reported in Day Hall’s fourth floor around midnight Friday morning, the Department of Public Safety announced. 

The graffiti was found in a bathroom on the dorm’s fourth floor, according to DPS bias incident report. Day Hall has been the site of at least eight incidents of targeted graffiti. At least 29 racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic and bias-related incidents have now occurred at or near Syracuse University since Nov. 7.

Racist graffiti targeting Black and Asian students was found in Day Hall’s fourth and sixth floors between Nov. 7 and Nov. 8. Additional graffiti was found in the residence hall’s third, fifth and sixth floors between Nov. 14 and Nov. 21. 

DPS is also investigating racist graffiti targeting Black and Asian students found Jan. 28 behind a vending machine in Day Hall. Racist graffiti targeting Black students was also found Feb. 2 in a Day Hall stairwell. 

The Office of Student Living will host a meeting for residents Friday night to discuss the recent events, the DPS report said. Residents of Day and Flint Halls are invited to attend, according to an email sent to Flint Hall residents. The two residence halls neighbor each other on Mount Olympus Drive. 

The graffiti is the second homophobic incident reported to DPS since Nov. 7. An SU student was physically assaulted and reportedly called a homophobic slur Dec. 12 while outside DJ’s on the Hill, a bar on Marshall Street, according to DPS.
