Syracuse announces McIntyre as new men’s soccer coach

Syracuse has officially named Ian McIntyre the new men’s soccer head coach, according to a press release issued by SU Athletics Wednesday afternoon.

McIntyre, formerly the head coach at Hartwick College (N.Y.), takes over for maligned former head coach Dean Foti, who went 3-15 this past season. Foti had been with the program for 19 seasons, compiling a record of 141-171-33 with no NCAA tournament visits.

‘We are extremely excited to have coach McIntyre lead our men’s soccer program,’ SU Director of Athletics Daryl Gross said in the release. ‘He has the ability to create a culture that will foster championship play at the national level. He has a tremendous history and background of success.’

McIntyre began coaching at Hartwick in 2003, notching a total record of 71-36-25 in seven seasons with the Hawks, including four 10-win seasons and a trip to the 2005 NCAA tournament.

The Hawks also maintained a 3-1-2 record against Syracuse under McIntyre’s tenure.
