The Syracuse University Student Association meets on Monday nights.

At the Syracuse University Student Association’s Monday meeting, Hendricks Chapel Dean Brian Konkol spoke about the chapel’s efforts to connect with students.

Konkol said many SU students are not aware of programs offered through Hendricks Chapel. A 2016 survey showed people at the university were asking for programs that already existed in the chapel, he said.

He laid out six goals the chapel wants to accomplish:

  • Increase student involvement in the religious, spiritual, moral and ethical programs and services associated with Hendricks Chapel.
  • Expand and support diversity, inclusion, ethics, integrity, health and wellness programs and services.
  • Increase the visibility of the chapel through an expanded commitment to marketing, communications and public relations.
  • Acquire the financial resources.
  • Develop and maintain facilities.
  • Build a culture of innovation, assessment and evaluation.

Konkol said the chapel this year has seen a 150 percent increase in fundraising, a 200 percent increase in social media engagement and increase in community service hours.

“We believe that a thriving Hendricks Chapel leads to a thriving Syracuse University,” Konkol said.
