The Syracuse Police Department arrested the suspect of a homicide near the Syracuse University campus on Tuesday afternoon, according to an SPD report.

Police officers were responding to a call to check on the status of a person at 501 S. Crouse Ave. when they found the homicide victim and identified her as Sarah Brantley, a 60-year-old woman of Syracuse, according to the report.

A suspect description was broadcast and shortly thereafter, the suspect — later identified as 22-year-old Jamar Brown of Syracuse — was stopped on West Genesee Street near Walnut Avenue, according to the report.

Brown was later charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, according to the report. He will be held in the Onondaga County Justice Center.
