While the last four semesters have been anything but normal, The Daily Orange has been the one constant. I was able to find comfort knowing that every night I would be going back to the same people, to work on the same paper we all love. I’m not the best with words, but the people who make up The Daily Orange are the reason why going to work often felt like coming home, and they deserve to be thanked.
Talia: Everything I learned about print design, I learned because of you. You have an amazing talent for design, but also for guiding others along the way. I was always in awe of your kindness and patience during your time as PD. You are truly one of the kindest souls I’ve ever met. Thank you for everything you did for us, and I can’t wait to see all of the big and amazing things you accomplish.
Amy and Kevin: Thank you for bringing me into The D.O. Without you and your guidance in those first few weeks, I would not have been here. Kevin, thank you for being a mentor, someone to look up to, and a helping hand whenever I needed it. Amy, thank you for guiding me into my first position, and being a friend at all times.
Haley & Leff: Joining The D.O. under your leadership showed me everything two smart, funny, powerful and amazing women could do. There’s nothing I miss more than design meetings on the floor of 744 or 230, laughing about design edits or funny faces across the circle. Thank you for your steady leadership, I’ve missed you both greatly.
Richard: Working so closely together in the fall was truly an honor. You kept me sane during late night design edits and graphic pitches. It’s a shame that we never actually crossed paths in person, but working together was still one of the best experiences I had at The D.O. I’m so excited to see that you are coming back to the paper next semester, and I can’t wait to see all that you do.
Skyler: Thank you for always making me smile during late nights designing. Despite not working in the house at the same time, you were always there to lift up everyone’s spirits. I’m so happy to see you grow into an amazing role at The D.O., and I know you are going to do great things.
Abby: I’m so happy to see you take on the role of Digital Managing Editor next semester. You are going to be amazing.
Mandy: There’s not a sweeter person I know than you. You have always been a friendly face during my time at The D.O., and I am so lucky to have worked with you. I absolutely cannot wait to see what you do as Managing Editor.
Casey and Emma: I can’t imagine leading this paper is always easy, but you have both done it with such grace, pride and patience. Thank you for everything you do for the staff, it means more than you will know. I’ve missed PUP food rounds and late night edits in the visuals room this last semester, but I will miss those nights even more now. I can’t wait to see everything you guys do in the future. I know it will be amazing.
Crane: Collabing with you on projects and splash pages was so much fun, and I loved your eagerness to pitch in wherever you could. Thank you for all of your help and hard work. You made working with Sports easy.
Corey and Billman: I’ve missed you both so much this past year. Walking into visuals at 744 (and then at 230) was always such a fun time because of you both. I wish we had more time to work together, because you are both phenomenal photographers, and I always look forward to seeing your work.
Yiwei, Maya, Sarah: I could not have asked for a better design team when I was Digital Design Director. Your love for print and digital design made everything possible, and you don’t get enough credit for what you do for the paper. I’m so excited to see what you all do in the future.
Emily: You are so powerful. From designing together freshman year, to becoming a brilliant photo editor and now leading this paper for the next year, I have been in awe of you. You are resilient, hardworking, compassionate, and so fun to be around. Spending every late night in the visuals room with you was worth it. You will do amazing things and I’m so incredibly lucky to have worked with you and to know you.
Shannon: I’m so glad that you have taken the paper in your hands and continue to create amazing designs and lead such a wonderful team of designers every week. I’m so proud of everything you’ve done. You have come a long way since our freshman year design squad. I wish we had more time working together, but I know you will do amazing things.
Nabeeha: My D.O. partner in crime. I have loved watching you grow into each position that you’ve held. From the day you trained me as a new print designer, I knew you were going to be an amazing designer. You have a natural talent for all things visuals, and you were an amazing PD. I’ve missed the late night bus rides, laughing with Emily in visuals, and bonding during 744 alumni parties. Thank you for guiding me through the last two years, your help has been the reason I was able to accomplish anything. Let’s catch up soon.
Everyone else: Every single person that I’ve worked with at The D.O. has met me with kindness, support, and encouragement. I’ve always been in awe of the work that is accomplished here and the people who make up this paper. You are all amazing, wonderful people. I could list so many names of the people I’ve crossed paths with that made working here the experience it was, but I’ll keep that to myself for now. Just know that if we’ve worked together, even for just a day, you have made an impact on my life, and I’m forever grateful for that.
