Conole already won party support from Cayuga County last Monday.

The Onondaga County Democratic Committee selected Francis Conole as its party candidate for the United States House of Representatives today.

Conole, an Iraq veteran, plans to run against Rep. John Katko (R-Camillus) this fall to represent New York state’s 24th Congressional District, Syracuse.com reported. He received 54% of the committee’s vote in a race against Democratic candidates Dana Balter and Roger Misso.

Onondaga County holds 74% of the district’s registered democrats. The committee’s nomination adds to Conole’s party support after he won the designation from Cayuga County last Monday.

Hours after Conole’s win, Balter’s campaign announced that she would challenge Onondaga County’s designation in a primary this June, according to Syracuse.com.

Balter won the designation in Oswego County last Monday and was Onondaga County’s party pick for the 2018 election. She lost that election to Katko by about five percentage points.

Misso plans to announce his decision on whether he will run in the primary by this Wednesday.
