Polina Shemanova named to preseason All-ACC Team

Polina Shemanova set the record for the the most kills by a Syracuse freshman with 447 last year.

After being named ACC freshman of the year in 2018, Polina Shemanova was named to the preseason All-ACC volleyball team as Syracuse’s lone representative on Friday afternoon.

One of five rising sophomores named to the All-ACC team, Shemanova contributed to the Orange’s first NCAA tournament appearance in program history last season. She set the record for the most kills by a SU freshman with 447, good for ninth all-time in program history.

Shemanova led the team with with 282 digs. Her 4.22 kills per set and 4.63 points per set were the second best rates in the ACC. She also recorded double-digit kills in 26 of 28 matches, notching 15 double-doubles in the process.

Shemanova and Syracuse open up their season with a trip to Wisconsin, facing Baylor on Sept. 5.
