Syracuse (7-2) returned to the AP poll this week, checking in at No. 25 in the rankings. The Orange had received the second-most votes of any unranked team last week, and a 72-71 win over Georgetown was enough to push SU into the top-25. Also tied at No. 25 with the same votes are Indiana (8-2) and Kansas State (8-2).

The Orange opened the season ranked at No. 16 and moved up to No. 15 in the second poll. But two losses at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 15 and 16 pushed SU out of the poll altogether.

Syracuse has won five straight games since those two losses in New York City, though, including a win at then-No. 16 Ohio State. To keep the win streak alive, the Orange needed a Tyus Battle game-winner with 2.5 seconds remaining on Saturday to beat long-time rival Georgetown.

The Atlantic Coast Conference leads the country with six ranked teams, including No. 2 Duke, No. 6 Virginia, No. 10 Florida State, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 13 Virginia Tech, and SU. Kansas is the new No. 1 after previous top-team Gonzaga lost to then-No. 7 Tennessee on Sunday.

Next up for Syracuse is a matchup with Old Dominion (7-3) on Saturday at noon. ODU is led by guards B.J. Stith, who scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Monarchs’ Sunday win over Fairfield, and Ahmad Caver, who leads Old Dominion in scoring and racked up 12 assists against Fairfield.
