Syracuse had three players named to Inside Lacrosse’s Preseason All-America list on Monday. Nick Mellen was named to the second team as a defenseman. Longstick midfielder Brett Kennedy and junior midfielder Jamie Trimboli were also announced as honorable mentions.
Mellen, a redshirt junior defenseman, led the Orange with 22 caused turnovers in 2018 while playing in all of SU’s 15 games. Against five of the nation’s top-11 scorers, Mellen limited opponents to 3.33 points per game.
Kennedy led SU with 42 ground balls, forced nine turnovers and scored twice. Trimboli finished 2018 with 21 goals and 10 assists. He led the Orange midfield’s first-line with 67 shot attempts.
Four other Atlantic Coast Conference teams were featured on Inside Lacrosse’s note. Notre Dame’s four selections made it the only conference opponent with more selections than SU’s three.
Syracuse’s season begins on Feb. 8, when it plays Colgate in the Carrier Dome.
