As the end of the school year approaches, keep up-to-date with who’s speaking at Syracuse University’s convocation. Here’s a list of what schools have announced convocation speakers and more information about SU’s 2018 Commencement address.

 

SU 2018 Commencement address: Kathrine Switzer, first woman to run the Boston Marathon

The 2018 SU Commencement address on May 13 will be delivered by Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon. Switzer graduated from SU with a degree from the College of Arts and Sciences and S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Switzer first ran the Boston Marathon in 1967, and then again 50 years later in 2017. She also received the Arents Award, the university’s most prestigious alumni award.

 

S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications: Jeff Glor ‘97, CBS News anchor

The Newhouse Convocation will feature Jeff Glor, the host of “CBS Evening News.” Glor graduated from SU in 1997, majoring in broadcast and digital journalism and economics.

He joined CBS in 2007 after starting his journalism career at WSTM-TV in Syracuse and then WHDH-TV in Boston.

 

School of Information Studies: Travis Mason ‘06, vice president of public policy at Airbus

The School of Information Studies has selected Travis Mason as its 2018 convocation speaker. Mason graduated from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 2006. He also received a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan.

He started his career as a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton and, eventually, worked on public policy and government relations for Google. He worked his way up to become chief of staff for the Google[x] team before leaving to start a job as vice president of public policy at Airbus.

 

SU College of Law: Preet Bharara, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York

The SU College of Law has chosen Preet Bharara to deliver its convocation address. Bharara is a former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Bharara worked against public corruption in New York City and prosecuted crimes on Wall Street, according to an SU News release. He was nicknamed the “Sheriff of Wall Street,” according to the release. He prosecuted almost 100 Wall Street executives from 2009 to 2017.

He was also listed as one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2012. He hosts his own podcast, “Stay Tuned with Preet.” Bharara gained national attention after President Donald Trump fired him from his position.

 

SU College of Visual and Performing Arts: Graham Warner ’02, chief operating officer of Deutsche Bank’s Global Transaction Bank Americas

The College of Visual and Performing arts will host Graham Warner for its convocation. Warner graduated from SU in 2002 with a dual bachelor’s degree in speech communication and information management and technology. Warner also received a master’s degree in information management and is a member of the iSchool’s board of advisers.

Warner serves as the chief operating officer at Deutsche Bank’s Global Transaction Bank, where he works on day-to-day operations, business development, strategic planning, capital planning, finance and talent management and regulatory engagement.

Warner worked at Citigroup in various roles for eight years before joining Deutsche Bank.
