Syracuse surrenders 2 goals, can’t overcome deficit in loss to Colgate

Syracuse (6-8-1, 4-1-1 College Hockey America) fell to Colgate (7-2-5, 0-1-4), 2-1, at Starr Rink Friday night.

The Orange dominated possession throughout the contest, outshooting the Raiders, 36-17, and dominating the faceoffs, 30-13. Still, SU struggled to generate the necessary offense it needed to overcome a late two-goal deficit.

Colgate struck first with 4:56 left in the second period on a goal from Jessie Eldridge, and Nicole Gass then extended the lead with 7:25 left in the  third period.

Megan Quinn scored the lone, unassisted goal with just over a minute remaining after Syracuse pulled goalkeeper Jenn Gilligan in favor of another attacker, but it proved too late. It was Quinn’s fourth goal on the season.

SU made Colgate goalkeeper Julia Vandyk work for 35 saves while Gilligan had 15.

Syracuse will look to bounce back Friday, Nov. 27, when the Orange return home to host North Dakota at 3 p.m.
