Eric Dungey was escorted to the locker room following a hit to the head in the second quarter of Syracuse’s game against Central Michigan.
He was replaced on the following drive by backup quarterback Austin Wilson, and won’t return in the second half. He is officially out with “an upper-body injury.”
The true freshman lay face down on the turf after having his head bent back on a targeting play from defensive lineman Mitch Stanitzek, who was eventually disqualified following a video review from the officials.
Dungey had been piecing together the best game of his young career. He had thrown for 93 yards and a touchdown, while running for 50 yards and another touchdown.
Dungey replaced quarterback Terrel Hunt in the first game against Rhode Island on Sept. 4, who suffered a torn Achillies in the first quarter of the first game of the season.
