BIONIC TONIC

The popular weekday party known as Tonic Tuesdays fell victim to a Syracuse Police Department raid at its location on a street off Euclid Avenue two weeks ago.

‘They said we’d been mentioned in their morning meeting,’ said Pat Bither, a junior television, radio and film major and one of the six people behind Tonic Tuesdays. ‘So we have to stop and lay low for a while.’

Without a Tuesday drinking destination, some Tonic Tuesday regulars decided to pick up where Bither’s party left off and threw a bash of their own.

‘We needed an excuse to drink on Tuesday,’ said Andrea Friedman, a junior broadcast journalism major.

Friedman, who, along with her roommates, entertained partiers at her apartment on a different street off of Euclid, is quick to credit Bither and his friends for the idea.

‘We’re not calling it Tonic Tuesdays,’ Friedman said. ‘That’s theirs. It just happens to be a Tuesday night thing. We haven’t named it yet.’

Friedman said she hopes to keep throwing such parties, but she doubts her shindig will be held as frequently as Bither’s had been.

‘It might be more of an every-other-week thing,’ Freidman said, ‘and never on a night that Tonic Tuesdays is on.’

COWGIRL DOWN

Last Friday, at a local fraternity’s cowboy-themed philanthropy event, one particular sorority member showed off her true grit.

Renay Posey, a junior retail and marketing dual major and a sister in Kappa Kappa Gamma, ran into her teammate during a hog-tying event and broke her nose.

‘It was a freak accident,’ Posey said of the collision. ‘The next thing I knew, I’m seeing stars.’

With her nose quickly swelling, some of Posey’s friends took her to the hospital. There, Posey said, her nose was put back in place and she was administered a cast that she will have to wear until Friday.

‘I’m one of the most accident prone people I’ve ever met in my life,’ Posey said, playing the injury off as if it were nothing serious. ‘This is just a different thing that I’ve never broken before.’

This time, though, the accident was caught on video camera by some of Posey’s sorority sisters.

‘It’s a funny story,’ Posey said. ‘I’ll be laughing at it in a week.’

THIS AND THAT

Former child actor Danny Tamberelli, who played the younger of the two Petes on the Nickelodeon show ‘The Adventures of Pete and Pete,’ was on campus this week with his band Jounce. The band performed at Thursday’s October Jam, but before the show, Tamberelli was on the SU Quad passing out fliers to promote the event
